Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 10, 2026

San Francisco Marijuana Card ("we," "us," or "our") operates sanfranciscomarijuanacard.org (the "Site"). Your privacy is fundamental to the care we provide. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Contact details: name, email address, and phone number when you book an appointment or contact us.
  • Identity verification: government-issued ID information required to confirm California residency and age.
  • Health information: medical history and symptoms you share with our physicians during your telehealth evaluation.
  • Payment information: card details processed securely by our third-party payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and browser type, IP address, pages visited, and referral source, collected through standard analytics tools and cookies.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To schedule and conduct your telehealth evaluation with a licensed California physician.
  • To issue, deliver, and verify your medical marijuana recommendation.
  • To process payment — only after your recommendation is approved.
  • To respond to your questions and provide patient support.
  • To maintain, secure, and improve the Site.
  • To comply with California law and applicable medical-record retention requirements.

3. How We Protect Health Information

Telehealth consultations are conducted on secure, encrypted platforms, and medical information is handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including HIPAA where it applies, and California's Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA). Access to patient records is restricted to authorized clinical and support personnel.

4. What We Never Do

  • We never sell your personal or medical information.
  • We never share your patient status with employers, landlords, or insurers.
  • We never use your health information for third-party advertising.

5. When We May Share Information

  • With your physician and clinical staff to provide your evaluation.
  • With dispensaries, solely to verify the validity of your recommendation when you present it.
  • With service providers (scheduling, payment processing, secure hosting) bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • When required by law, such as a valid court order, or to protect the rights and safety of patients and the public.

6. Cookies & Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the Site working properly and to understand how visitors use it. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; some features may not function correctly without them.

7. Your California Privacy Rights

California residents may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know, correct, and delete personal information we hold, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising those rights. To make a request, email contact@sanfranciscomarijuanacard.org. Note that medical records may be subject to legally required retention periods.

8. Data Retention

We retain medical records for the period required by California law and professional medical standards. Non-medical account information is retained only as long as needed for the purposes described above.

9. Children's Privacy

The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Patients under 21 may have additional requirements under California law.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
